May has been described by many astrologers, including myself, as the most favorable month of 2024. In a time of great change and a great many difficulties, this month we have the Sun and Venus in stable and material-based Taurus where they have joined uranus and jupiter. This Saturday 18 May is set up to be a truly wonderful day for planting the seeds for all manner of the things we want to grow, as we find ourselves beginning the new cycles brought on by Venus conjuncting Uranus, and the very fruitful conjunction of the Sun and Jupiter. Both of these conjunctions are potentially very beneficial. Elsewhere, and at the same time, Mars is making a conjunction with the North Node, also a potentially beneficial transit that can drive us into karmic growth, depending on what our intentions are on this very auspicious day. With all of this happening together we may experience a sudden desire for change in all of our personal relationships and values, leading to unexpected shifts or new, exciting connections. There’s an expansion of optimism and growth in our sense of self and life direction, fostering a greater sense of confidence and abundance. At the same time, there’s a strong drive to pursue personal goals with renewed courage and determination, encouraging decisive actions towards our aspirations. This combination of influences brings a blend of stability and innovation, inspiring us to embrace new opportunities and take bold steps towards our dreams. It’s all about our intentions, and it’s looking good!
But, as with all things, you can’t have it all.
Late in Wednesday 15 May or early on Thursday 16, depending on where you are on the planet, Mercury entered into Taurus.
Mercury is the planet that rules the three C’s -Communication. Commuting. Commerce-. Mercury is a fast mover and, having just left fast-acting and assertive Aries, coming into Taurus where he can slow down, take a much-needed rest and become more deliberate should be a good thing, especially when considering the three C’s and Mercury’s association with our conscious mind. But, instead of taking a break, he’s stepped into a square with Pluto in Aquarius. This will be in effect until the end of the 19th or 20th, depending on where you live.
Square aspects in astrology are intrinsically linked to the energetic and challenging qualities of Mars. Squares represent tension, conflict, and dynamic interaction between planetary energies, much like Mars, which symbolizes action, aggression, and assertiveness. When two planets are in a square aspect, they are 90 degrees apart, creating a friction that demands resolution and often results in a forceful push towards growth or change. This aspect channels the confrontational and proactive nature of Mars, compelling individuals to confront obstacles directly, engage in vigorous problem-solving, and harness the tension as a catalyst for development. The square’s inherent struggle mirrors Mars’ drive for conquest and mastery, making it a potent force for transformation, albeit through conflict and challenge. And anything square to Pluto is only going to intensify this. A lot!
How can we expect this to manifest in our lives? I’ll add a short passage later in this post to describe for each or the 12 Ascendant Signs how this could possibly play out. For now, let’s look at the general significations of Mercury in Taurus square to Pluto in Aquarius…
